ART @ THE SURREY
As a continuing evolution of our art program, The Surrey is proud to introduce our Art Expert in Residence and art historian extraordinaire—Natasha Schlesinger, founder of the award winning ArtMuse.
Natasha began her career as a specialist at Christie's, went on to lecture at both Christie's and Sotheby's and served as an instructor at the Cooper-Hewitt's graduate program for the New School. In 2005 she was the recipient of the prestigious Art Table award as one of the "Future Women Leaders of the Art World." Yet, despite her highly pedigreed expertise, Natasha believes that above all, art should be engaging, exciting and entertaining. As such, ArtMuse has curated tailored, exceptional, and approachable art experiences around art of all periods: from classical to modern, figurative to abstract, sculpture, drawings, photography, and everything in between— throughout the city. It promises to be a true delight for eyes, hearts and minds!
With the original collection curated by the famed interior designer – Lauren Rottet, Natasha is seeking to extend its thoughtful, yet whimsical scope. She is hoping to carefully push the hotel’s modern ideal forward – ultimately striking a balance between the bold yet understated aesthetic of The Surrey.
Launching with New York Fashion Week, The Surrey explores the similitude between art and fashion as the two industries enter a new dynamic. Over the past century, fashion has become a language of art, as artists adapt the subject into new mediums of expression. Natasha transforms our lobby yet again with an exclusively curated fall exhibit: Fashioning Art.
